I have had a few Debbie Downer moments this week and I thought I would share. Here they are -

I'm watching the morning weather report with David Payne and he says that it looks like this winter will be warmer than average. Which I love because I hate wintertime. BUT then he says that it looks like it will be wetter than average. WAH-WAH I hate rain! What I hate more than rain is rain and cold weather which can lead to ice. Arrgh!

As I said earlier I hate wintertime and I thought this winter wouldn't be as bad because we would have an NBA team here this year. I thought the Thunder make the winter days go by faster BUT what I didn't realize is the Thunder was going to suck so bad.WAH-WAH It's going to be a long winter for the Thunder this year.

There is a restaurant that recently went out of business near my house. I was interested even a little excited to see what would replace it. Thinking of all the possibilities of what it could be maybe a Hideaway pizza or a Johnnies BUT the other day I see the sign. It's going to be a pub. WAH-WAH I don't drink and not crazy about a new bar near my house but what can you do.

When you see Jesus what will your reaction be?

This question came in my mind the other day in church when we sang the song When we all get to Heaven. The part that says when we all see Jesus we'll sing and shout the victory. I've probably sang that song a hundred times but for some reason Sunday the words "shout the victory" struck me as an interesting.

SHOUT THE VICTORY -

These words make me think of a sporting event when your team wins the big game.

Question of the Whenever

I was thinking about having a Question of the Day but that is to much of a commitment. What if I don't have the time or even a question everyday. Then I thought maybe a question of the week but I'm to impatient. What if I think of a good question today? That would be to long to wait. So I have come up with the Question of the Whenever. These questions will be posted whenever. Some are deep questions some not so much. You don't have to reply if you don't want to but you are welcome to if you want. So here it goes.

The Question of Whenever.

Do you think that our view of God is effected by how other people act?

Let me give you an example.

Some have said that some people's view of their heavenly father can be based on our their earthly father.
or
If your whole life has been filled with people treating you badly does this effect how you see God?

Is this part of the reason why some of us have a hard time surrendering to God's will?

Sorry if this is confusing. It's the first Question of the Whenever so give me a break. I'll try better next time whenever that will be.

This is how it went down the best that I can remember.

It was a warm summer evening and our family was enjoying a lovely meal of Chicken Rice a Roni.

It’s the San Francisco treat you know.

When Holt comes out of nowhere with a statement of daddy did you know it was good to be in jail.

What? I replied.

He repeated the statement again.

After further discussion we come to realize that he found this out in bible class.

Oh, ok we get it now he is talking about someone in the bible.

This brings on the question of whom.

We had a pretty good guess but decided to let Holt share with us. We asked who was in jail?

No reply.

I asked him if it was Jesus. (I know that Jesus did not do any jail time here during his time here on Earth but with a three yr old sometimes they rather repeat what you say than actually think about what the correct answer is)

He said no.

Then after several failed attempts by Susan and I to get Holt to spill the beans on who was in the slammer that’s when it happened.

Abi says here is a better question “ Holt who are learning about in class?”

She was right Holt sang like a canary.

If you are wondering it was Peter who was spending time in the clink.

Holt told us the whole story.

We then confirmed that Holt knew it wasn’t good to be in jail for doing bad things.

I'm sure Holt's teacher wasn't expecting that's what Holt would remember most about class.

Yes, I was shown up by a 6 yr old(6yrs and almost 11 months). Good question Abi.

We are in the aftermath of March Madness and I wanted to share some thoughts from one of the greatest events of sports.

It’s not that Bill Self decision to foul with over two minutes remaining, which seemed crazy at the time was genius.

It’s not that it’s the first national championship for the Big XII.

It’s not that Clay finally won something. (His tournament bracket)

It’s about a comment I heard on the day that Michigan State was to play Memphis. A Michigan State player was asked about Memphis up-tempo style of play and how would they be able to keep up with them.

He responded by saying: That the team has been practicing religiously to compete with Memphis.

The Michigan State Spartans went on to loose to the Memphis Tigers that night 92 – 74.

Seeing the final outcome of their practicing it makes me think of the question – If a basketball team practiced religiously based on my spirituality what would the final score be?

I hope that they would put up a better fight than the Spartans did. The Spartans kind of played like a team practicing religiously with spirituality of a person who shows up to church on Christmas and Easter.

We are raised as children to one day to be independent of our parents. Some still struggle with this and some will always be dependent on someone. Some will never depend on anyone ever. When we are babies we depend on someone to feed us, change us and hold us if this does not happen then what happens the baby cries until the need is filled. As we get older we are taught how to feed ourselves, change ourselves and entertain ourselves. As we get even older we are taught how to live on our own until we are blessed with a spouse, which can lead to taking care of a family.

You are now an independent adult. You’ve been equipped to take on all responsibilities. You don’t need anyone’s help anymore.

That’s were we make the mistake!

Until we decide to surrender all to God and be like a child and depend on him than we don’t understand his awesome power. It has taken me going through two major struggles in my life to realize this. It still is a struggle to realize that I am not in control but I feel more confident in my walk with him who put me here.

Do not be afraid to be like a little baby and cry out to the Lord to help you. That’s what he wants.

I was in Wal Mart just the other day thinking, I could be at a nice hotel in Dallas but instead I'm at Wal Mart and that's depressing. Why? you ask

because of the GREAT WINTER STORM 2007 Part 2 (the revenge of the winter storm) coming to a neighborhood near you this weekend! this storm has not been rated

We were supposed to go down to Big D but the fear of the unknown stop us.

What was the storm in Dallas going to do to their roads?
Is it safe to drive at night on icy patched road in south Oklahoma?
What if the second big storm comes early?

These are all unkowns that kept us in Oklahoma going to Wal Mart instead of being in a nice hotel in Dallas. Boooo! but were safe and that is good thing.

kids out of school for a week and my family having cabin fever

My wife and kids were in our house from Friday until Wednesday morning which gave them cabin fever. The term cabin fever is kinda of an interesting phrase. I start thinking of the different fevers there are out there.

Cabin Fever - tired of being trapped in a cabin

Scarlet Fever - tired of the color scarlet red or tired of watching Gone with the wind

Hay Fever - tired of living on a farm

but fever can be used in a totally opposite way like

Football Fever - wanting football season to start right now

You maybe going through as my daughter says the worst day ever but things could be worse. You are alive and you have the ability to survive and this to will pass. God loves you and will be there for you to give you strength.

I want to thank God for giving me family, friends and my church family that love me.

I took the family to see Disney on Ice last weekend. I was standing in line to get the kids something to drink when I see someone ordering a beer. What?! Why are they selling beer at Disney on Ice and who needs to drink at a kid's show.

That's right biblical trading cards - I need help because my character drawing skills lack greatness but the good side is that no one will know if Samuel had a mole on left cheek. I also will take any good ideas. If your ideas are bad please keep them to yourself (just kidding).

I don't want to sell them but I think it would be a good way for kids to learn the bible. I might just have them for my kids or for the kids at Church.

I don’t know nothin about no Billy Shakespeare but I do know something about what sounds weird.

When we were on our trip to Orlando was during the same time that the Arena Football League was having their championship game. The Orlando Predators were taking part in this game and the local news station was interviewing fans at a local sports grill. This is when a fan says,

“Orlando loves their Predators!”

A predator is an animal or other organism (such as a wolf) that hunts and kills other organisms, called prey, for food in an act called predation.

I knew what she meant but an animal on the hunt was not what came to my mind but some sicko on my space pretending to be 16 and the captain of the football team to meet young girls.

I don’t want to see the mascot for that helmet and Orlando; you can have all of Oklahoma’s predators.

Disney World is supposed to be where dreams come true and they did just 22 years late.

We were riding the monorail train out of the happiest place on Earth when we came to a stop. We were told that we had to wait on another train to unload.
As we sat there chit chatting about our day and listening to the people in the other cabin talk it hit me. My dream that I had in junior high had come true. I was stuck in a room with a group of junior high girls. This was not how I imagined it and I realized this might have been a dream of mine in junior high but know as an adult that it is one of my nightmares. We were stuck in there for as one of the jh girls put it “like 20 hours”. It was more like 20 minutes, which was long enough, trust me.

Be careful what you dream. It might come true 22 years later.

I was watching an episode of Love Monkey the other day(I don't why I don't like it or anything) and on this episode there was a character talking about her favorite songs of all time. I get tired of e-mails that say if you love God than you will send this e-mail to 10 other people.

You know the e-mail.

It has a interesting story or poem related to God than a guilt message that says something like "if this was a joke than you would send it to your friends".

Is this little poem going to change someone's outlook towards God. I can tell you for a fact that some of the people who have sent it to me that it hasn't changed them much.

It sort of like going to church only on Christmas and Easter like I did my part. My faith and love towards God will not be proven through two visits to church and an e-mail.

My love for God is proven and sometimes lacking proof in my everyday walk.

I was able to go to the Hornet's game on March 12th, which it was Hugo the hornet's birthday. They had mascots from around the NBA there celebrating Hugo's birthday. What's a birthday celebration without a wrestling battle royal between the mascots?

Today is my wedding anniversary. My wife and I are celebrating number nine. Today is also Abi's first day of pre school.

I've always dreamed of standing on a platform with a gold medal around my neck and the national anthem is playing while tears going down my check. It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it.
Did I ever do anything to pursue this dream? NO!

Now at the age of 36 I've realized my dream is not going to happen.

Then it happened, my dream had a chance, I was watching the Olympics and saw the event Curling. Have you seen this event? Ice rink janitors everywhere dream of making their countries Curling team. They don't look like great athletes. I can do this!

Then I have a flashback from the morning when walking to my car where I slipped and fell on the ice.

My dreams ended on a cold Oklahoma morning in my driveway but I will never forget that day. Well not for a while it hurt.

Emma Bonny Stephens was taken from this world three weeks before her delivery date.

I went to a graveside services for little Bon-Bon on February 14th 2006.

I can't imagine what pain this family is going through. I pray to God that he will ease their pain.

Just as Corey and Bonny had prepared a room for their little girl, God has prepared a room for her up in heaven.

It will be a rough time for the family through the years they will see little girls and think that maybe Emma might look like her. As years past they will think about how Emma would be starting school this year and Emma would driving this year.

The things I don't understand:

Why there are people like the Stephens who want to have a baby and this happens to them and you have people who have abortions.

The things that I'm not supposed to understand:

There are things in this world that I'm not supposed to understand but I know that it's God's will that it happens even if it's not what he wants to happen.(ex. Job)

At the services:

They handed out pink balloons to everyone and when they played the song Somewhere over the rainbow everyone released their balloons. Some people let go of their balloons earlier in the services not on purpose but I was thinking I don't understand why these people can't hang on to a simple balloon and that this is not what they had planned. They went through all of this effort to have these balloon leave at the same time and this was messing all of this up. Then it hit me when all of the balloons were being released that this is just like life. Some balloons went on earlier than the others like Emma even though this is not how they planned it even though I didn't understand either situation.

The balloons followed the ones that were released early.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

While I was standing there listening to a song being played I closed my eyes and felt the warm sun shining on me and thought how blessed I was to be living my life. I thought about what I have done with my blessing. I feel that I have not lived it the way someone should to be blessed with life.

When I see a pink balloon, I'm going to think about Little Bon Bon and reevaluate my life to see if I'm living it to the fullest.

On my way back to work, I stopped by and saw my kids and gave them a big hug and kiss. When I was walking out of my parent's house, I see a pink valentine heart balloon floating over the roof right to me. I grabbed the balloon and took it to my little girl.

Thank you God for my little girl! I'm truly blessed.

I have officially named today Family Celebration Day. I know that it is hard sometimes to have family time together because of busy schedules but I also think it is a very important to spend time together. I hope that you spend more than this day having fun together with your family but I wanted to have a special day for my family and I wanted to share it with everybody.

From this day forward on February the 2nd it will be known as Family Celebration Day!

Enjoy time with your family. You never know when it will be taken from you.

I had my kids taken from my wife and I for four months on this day last year. We are not promised tomorrow and we sure don't know what it holds for us.

GARAGE SALE

This is my cat Garage and he is for sale at a low price of free.

He just appeared one day in our garage and he is still there. He makes frequent trips inside the house thru our doggie door. He's a nice cat but our cat does not like him. He started out as princess garage cat until a visit to vet where it was revealed to us that he is not a princess but a prince.

He's a long hair cat. OK!

I don't want to take him to the pound.

We will probably be stuck with him.

I think my mother's curse has been passed down to me.

We used to joke that stray animals would give out our address to other stray animals.

It would sound something like this - You go to this place and they will take real good care of you until you get back on your paws.

One of my pet peeves is littering but I think people throwing trash in their truck beds   bothers me more. I guess it makes the person feel better that they didn't throw the trash on the ground but eventually it makes it there.

I understand they don't want the trash in their truck but can't it wait until they get to a place with a trashcan. I don't want their trash on the ground making everything look trashy. I guess the truck bed trash heaps bother me more because they are trying to get away with something.

At least the litterbugs put it all out there. (No pun intended) Look at me I'm an idiot who doesn't care what my city looks like.

The TBTH people say will I threw it away. (I really have never heard anybody say that but I bet that if you caught them in the act that this is what they would say) Whatever happens after that is not my fault. (If I ever heard someone say that which I haven’t ooh I would be somewhat upset.)

I guess what I’m saying is don’t litter and that includes your truck bed.

Don’t get me started on people talking on cell phones while smoking, driving and throwing trash in the back of their truck bed with their radio so loud it makes my car shake.

A gift from Garage

This Christmas, our cat Garage brought in a gift for us. It was a live bird. I heard it in our dining room and then it flew towards the entertainment center when I got over to save it from the cat it flew towards the screen door, which was not open, and it crashed. Then I ran over to let it out before the dogs got to it. Ojoe (our dog) got there at the same time that I did so I stopped her from getting the bird when Maggie (our other dog) came over to see what was going on which made Ojoe mad.

OK! Let's take a break.

Now here I am trying to let this bird out who has blood on it and probably has a slight concussion while trying to prevent the dogs from getting the bird and each other. Susan is finally able to come over and open the door and out went the bird. First, it was stumbling but finally it was able to regain composer and fly off to safety to our neighbor’s driveway where a big white cat jumped out and ate it.

Yes that's right after all of that the bird became a Christmas meal.

It was like one of those wildlife shows where they show the little animal being attack by the bigger animal in slow motion.

I believe it was that bird’s time to go and I guess that big white cat must have been good this year.

Abi, my 4 year old came to me and wanted me to help her write a letter to Santa Claus and here it is:

Dear Santa,

How are you doing? Are you feeling well? Is you reindeers ok? Will you bring me presents? I wish you a Merry Christmas. I want a bicycle and an American flag. I bet you have a great ride. Are you doing well Santa? Are you not sick? Make sure everybody in town gets lots of presents and I hope everybody in the world gets lots of toys. I wish that you and me could have breakfast and lunch together and Christmas cookies and have fun together playing in my room and meet and play with my brother in his room.

The other day I was listening to Christmas songs on the radio and they played the song My Favorite Things from the movie Sound of Music. This song is considered a Christmas song because it mentions snowflakes and sleigh bells I guess. I said all that to say this, it started me thinking about not my favorite things but some of my favorite things that I miss sometimes. The key word is sometimes, some of these things are things that I wouldn’t want back necessarily but they are good times that are nice to reminisce.

I’m scared of hot chocolate!

A couple of weeks ago I stopped by Brahms to get a hot chocolate. Brahms makes everything better and they also put whipped cream on their hot chocolate. What does whipped cream have to do with anything? Will it usually cools down the hot chocolate. The morning that I purchased this wonderful drink but still scary they asked

“would you like some whipped cream with that?”

and I replied

“ yes please”.

Now this is when it gets interesting, anticipating drinking the hot chocolate( which is a wonderful drink at this time and no way scary) on a cold November morning even though I know that it is hot but I thought the whipped cream would make it safe so I decided to take a sip. A sip that’s all just one little sip what could that hurt but the sip was not a sip it was a swig.

That’s when it happened the wonderful drink turned scary. It was in my mouth burning.

Should I spit it out but where?

Should I swallow? The horror

I burnt my tung (that’s how you spell tongue after you burn it). That’s when I started to fear hot chocolate.

I, like batman have decided to use my fear and turn it against my enemies and become Hot Chocolate man. I could wear a brown outfit and shoot whipped cream at my enemies.

I really don’t have that many enemies other than AOL, DHS and the Galleria furniture store. Somebody already took the website name HOT CHOCOLATE MAN (GROSS!) and what kind of superhero doesn’t have a website.

So, I guess that I will go on living my ordinary life and maybe I will try that wonderful but scary drink called hot chocolate one day but until then.....

Countdown to Turkey

We’ll the countdown has begun to Turkey Day. The emphasis has moved to the turkey somewhere between the Pilgrims and now. This doesn’t bother me that this has happened because I try to be thankful all the time not needing a certain day to remind me hey you should be thankful. I mean it’s nice idea to think that everybody’s focus is giving thanks. I might have a cynical view but this day is not about thanks. It’s about eating as much as we can eat, watching football, some time off from work and shopping at the crack of dawn.

I’m surprised that the Turkey (the official food of the Thanksgiving Holiday) has made it as the main course. I always thought it would be kind of nice to have our favorite dishes instead of food that we only have once possibly twice a year. I think this would spark interest in thankfulness.

I like Thanksgiving; it has some of my favorite things.

Goodbye sweet treats!

We’re trying to promote healthy living in our house. We’re giving coupons to our 4 yr old to take to her Grandma/babysitter’s house and for our house. The coupons will be for one sweet treat every once in a while or just one cup of chocolate milk instead of many. We hope this will help her make healthy habits not just now but good habits in the future. This can only be done if we her parents are a good example and make good decisions too.

I’ve known people who have said when I have children then I will go to Church because I want my kids to be raised at Church. There is a chance that this person’s children will grow up to be Christians but the truth is probably look to parents spiritual habits. If they don’t care about their soul now than it will be hard to make good spiritual habits.

I know it’s going to be hard to change my eating habits but I know who’s watching me.

I was able to go to the OU game Saturday with my good friend Steve. I had a good time and yes, I did root for the Sooners (my allegiance still with the Pokes).

What was it that got my attention?

Was it the exciting football game? NO
Was it the flyover during the National Anthem? NO
Was it the vendor loosing his money and it flying all over the crowd? NO
Was it the awesome Fighting Texas Aggie Band? NO

It was a sign on the JUMBOTRON. An advertisement for BAR-S FOODS bragging that they make 7 million hotdogs a day. That's 2 Billion 541 Million hotdogs a year and I gave them Thanksgiving and Christmas day off.

Now that's a lot of free radicals.

I was thinking (which could be considered dangerous at times) about the comparison of the Bible and a teddy bear.

My son has a teddy bear and is very attached to it like a lot kids are attached to blankets, toys, and any stuffed type creature.

My son is very glad to see his bear whenever he has been away from it.

He likes to keep it near him for comfort when he is down.

NOK being New Orleans and Oklahoma City combined but that's a different blog at a different blog time anyway (that was for Luke) there was a man holding up a sign wanting to legalize marijuana (weed) saying that this would stop gang activity. I guess he was thinking this worked back in the day with Capone and Prohibition. It's already scary with people drinking and driving. How about people someone wacked out on drugs driving.
Just listen to Nancy Reagan and say no to drugs.

I think the guy holding the sign was actually a rep. from the snack food industry trying to raise sales.

Ok, I'm getting to a point in all this rambling. The other day I was listening to the Bible (I did say listening to the Bible. Yes, I'm reading impaired not that I can't read, it's just doing it is the problem. I'm losing focus here must finish point.) The other day I was listening to the Bible and I came upon the 13th chapter of Matthew verses 24 thru 30 The Parable of the Weeds and verses 36 thru 43 The Parable of the Weeds Explained and I thought of the man with the sign who actually in all honesty probably wanted to smoke weed and not go to jail than actually caring about gangs and their activities.

The irony is if he doesn't change his ways that he'll probably be a smoked weed.

The Parable of the Weeds
24Jesus told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
27"The owner's servants came to him and said, 'Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?'
28" 'An enemy did this,' he replied. "The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?'
29" 'No,' he answered, 'because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. 30Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.' "

36Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field."
37He answered, "The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. 38The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
40"As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.

The Scooby Doo gang is searching for Fred. This is my family dressed up for Halloween. There's no Fred and I don't see us adding on just to complete the gang. Fred will just have to be the one who is kidnapped all the time.
