HAPPY NEW YEAR!

ALCOHOL

This is a song written and sung by Brad Paisley that I thought was pretty clever and funny. This song is found on Brad Paisley's latest album time well wasted. I will warn you this is country music and I know that there are a lot of people who hate country music but Brad's music is very well written and entertaining. If you are interested in listening I've put a link to his website.

02. Alcohol
Brad Paisley (ASCAP)

I can make anybody pretty
I can make you believe any lie
I can make you pick a fight
With somebody twice your size

I been known to cause a few break ups
I been known to cause a few births
I can make you new friends
Or I can make you say bad words

1st Chorus
And since the day I left Milwaukee
Lynchburg and Bordeaux France
Been making the bars lots of big money
And helping white people dance
I got you in trouble in high school
But college, now that was a ball
You had some of the best times
You'll never remember with me
Alcohol
Alcohol

I got blamed at your wedding reception
For your best man's embarrassing speech
And also for those
Naked pictures of you at the beach

I've influenced kings and world leaders
I helped Hemmingway write like he did
And I'll bet you a drink or two that I can make you
Put that lampshade on your head

2nd Chorus
'Cause since the day I left Milwaukee
Lynchburg and Bordeaux France
Been making a fool out of folks just like you
And helping white people dance
I'm medicine and I am poison
I can help you up or make you fall
You had some of the best times
You'll never remember with me
Alcohol
Alcohol

Repeat 1st Chorus

Countdown to Christmas!

Let the reindeer games begin!

I hope everybody is enjoying the Holiday Season (which includes Christmas)

Abi, my 4 year old came to me and wanted me to help her write a letter to Santa Claus and here it is:

Dear Santa,

How are you doing? Are you feeling well? Is you reindeers ok? Will you bring me presents? I wish you a Merry Christmas. I want a bicycle and an American flag. I bet you have a great ride. Are you doing well Santa? Are you not sick? Make sure everybody in town gets lots of presents and I hope everybody in the world gets lots of toys. I wish that you and me could have breakfast and lunch together and Christmas cookies and have fun together playing in my room and meet and play with my brother in his room.

(She told me to write the letters NOST and I asked her what it meant) nost – playing and resting

Please won’t you meet my mom and dad?

Please don’t even think about Monsters Inc.

Will you watch TV with me and my brother and sing along songs and don’ forget to watch princess movies. Play with my Grammy and Gramps and Gramps will tell funny jokes and I’ll get him to say funny ha ha to you Santa. Welcome Santa to our house. Love, Abi

P.S. You don’t want to be like Monsters Inc.

I was proud that she included her brother in the letter and I think she has watch Christmas shows too much. Who says town anymore?

Abi preformed in her first ballet Christmas show and she did great!

I did a dance on mommy’s plant somebody snitched on me.

I heard on the radio that Christmas is considered one of the most depressing times of the year.

I can understand why it can be depressing.

Lonely
Missing love ones who are away or have passed on

I miss family at Christmas time but I have memories of the good times that we had together.

This brings up the age-old question

Is it better to love and lost than not to love at all?

If you don’t put yourself out there to love someone than you’ll probably be alone.

Lonely
or
Missing love ones

Love one another

Remember those who are gone and cherish those memories

Cry!
It’s ok, that’s how we heal

JOY TO THE WORLD!

That's the song that Clark Griswold sings in Christmas Vacation when turning on his Christmas lights.

I felt kind of like Clark when putting up my lights. I finally got them to work just the other day. I put them up on Thanksgiving Day. It's a long story but here they are

my lights

my lights on drugs

I hope everyone has a safe Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Merry Christmas!

Let the healing process begin

I drank a cup of hot chocolate the other day. It was a small cup but it's a start. I'm still a little nervous and still having flashbacks. The burning of the tongue is hard thing to overcome. I see hope of a large cup in the future.

Few of my favorite things not necessarily

The other day I was listening to Christmas songs on the radio and they played the song My Favorite Things from the movie Sound of Music. This song is considered a Christmas song because it mentions snowflakes and sleigh bells I guess. I said all that to say this, it started me thinking about not my favorite things but some of my favorite things that I miss sometimes. The key word is sometimes, some of these things are things that I wouldn’t want back necessarily but they are good times that are nice to reminisce.

*****WARNING*****WARNING****

JUST IN CASE YOU MISSED THE PREVIOUS SENTENCE, SOME OF THESE THINGS ARE THINGS THAT I WOULDN’T WANT BACK NECESSARILY BUT THEY ARE GOOD TIMES THAT ARE NICE TO REMINISCE.

         My Grandpa Citty
When he would come over on Christmas mornings when we were little to see what we got from Santa Claus.

Sitting around and just talking to friends to midnight or beyond.

Kevin and Heather Hahn – Kevin was a youth minister when I was in the singles group and him and his wife and some friends from the singles
group would sit around and talk and laugh all night.

The singles group – Shan, Mark, Ryan, Greg, Karl, Kari, Kristy, Robert, Eric, Marci, Reed, Mike, Bonnie and of course my lovely wife Susan
There were others that stopped in from time to time that we fun with them too

The time before I knew of the dark side of this world.
When everything was innocence.

When I was single. ******WARNING***** please check the disclaimer
I would not want to be single again but I sometimes miss having time that it’s just me (this will also make the things I don’t miss list)

When it was just Susan and myself. ******WARNING***** please check the disclaimer
With all that I went through this year there is no way that I would want to be without my kids. I had lots of fun when it was just the two of us that’s all I’m saying.

My cousin Mike
Mike could make me laugh so hard one minute and make me so mad the next
We just don’t see each other anymore. He has his life and I have mine.
We would go to the racetrack every Friday night (another thing I miss)

My life before February 2nd 2005
It just doesn’t feel the same.
I have bad feelings towards people and organizations
I feel like putting my little boy in a bubble so that he won’t get hurt

Susan’s grandmother
I liked how she made me feel inside

Eating after eight o’clock
These days you never know how the stomach will handle it

Shooting hoops
Used to do a lot of that back in the day

Playstation 2
     See: shooting hoops

Clint McCutchen
     See: Susan’s grandmother

There are more I’m sure just can’t think right now. Look for part 2 coming soon to a blog near you.

The gallery

I asked my 4 yr old

I asked my 4 yr old if Jesus was here what would you tell him or ask him.

She replied, “I’d ask him to play Hungry Hungry Hippos but he might be scared to play it.” “I’d ask him to play with my doll house”

I think this is why Jesus loves the little children. They don’t want things from him just some quality time with him.

The sky is falling!

CHICKEN LITTLE

It's very family friendly and funny movie.

Warning: There are some intense scenes (for children) with aliens attacking but not to bad.

I gave it two wings up!

Why are you yelling!

Here is something to think about…

If you were put on an island where no one could hear would you

  1. Learn sign language

  2. Just yell all the time

Sometimes it is good to adapt to our surroundings

Sometimes it is good to stand-alone

HOLY HOT CHOCOLATE , BATMAN!

I’m scared of hot chocolate!

A couple of weeks ago I stopped by Brahms to get a hot chocolate. Brahms makes everything better and they also put whipped cream on their hot chocolate. What does whipped cream have to do with anything? Will it usually cools down the hot chocolate. The morning that I purchased this wonderful drink but still scary they asked

would you like some whipped cream with that?”

and I replied

yes please”.

Now this is when it gets interesting, anticipating drinking the hot chocolate( which is a wonderful drink at this time and no way scary) on a cold November morning even though I know that it is hot but I thought the whipped cream would make it safe so I decided to take a sip. A sip that’s all just one little sip what could that hurt but the sip was not a sip it was a swig.

That’s when it happened the wonderful drink turned scary. It was in my mouth burning.

Should I spit it out but where?

Should I swallow? The horror

I burnt my tung (that’s how you spell tongue after you burn it). That’s when I started to fear hot chocolate.

I, like batman have decided to use my fear and turn it against my enemies and become Hot Chocolate man. I could wear a brown outfit and shoot whipped cream at my enemies.

I really don’t have that many enemies other than AOL, DHS and the Galleria furniture store. Somebody already took the website name HOT CHOCOLATE MAN (GROSS!) and what kind of superhero doesn’t have a website.

So, I guess that I will go on living my ordinary life and maybe I will try that wonderful but scary drink called hot chocolate one day but until then.....

BEWARE OF THE HOT CHOCOLATE!

Countdown to Turkey

We’ll the countdown has begun to Turkey Day. The emphasis has moved to the turkey somewhere between the Pilgrims and now. This doesn’t bother me that this has happened because I try to be thankful all the time not needing a certain day to remind me hey you should be thankful. I mean it’s nice idea to think that everybody’s focus is giving thanks. I might have a cynical view but this day is not about thanks. It’s about eating as much as we can eat, watching football, some time off from work and shopping at the crack of dawn.

I’m surprised that the Turkey (the official food of the Thanksgiving Holiday) has made it as the main course. I always thought it would be kind of nice to have our favorite dishes instead of food that we only have once possibly twice a year. I think this would spark interest in thankfulness.

I like Thanksgiving; it has some of my favorite things.

family
football
eating
time off from work
rest (hopefully)
hand art
giant baloons in the shape of cartoons
putting up Christmas lights

I’m very thankful for this time.
HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Goodbye sweet treats!

We’re trying to promote healthy living in our house. We’re giving coupons to our 4 yr old to take to her Grandma/babysitter’s house and for our house. The coupons will be for one sweet treat every once in a while or just one cup of chocolate milk instead of many. We hope this will help her make healthy habits not just now but good habits in the future. This can only be done if we her parents are a good example and make good decisions too.

I’ve known people who have said when I have children then I will go to Church because I want my kids to be raised at Church. There is a chance that this person’s children will grow up to be Christians but the truth is probably look to parents spiritual habits. If they don’t care about their soul now than it will be hard to make good spiritual habits.

I know it’s going to be hard to change my eating habits but I know who’s watching me.

Landslide

I’ve heard the song Landslide four times(Fleetwood Mac 3, Dixie Chicks 1) in the last week.

What does this mean?

What is this song about?

I took my love and I took it down
Climbed a mountain and turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills
‘til the landslide brought it down

Oh, mirror in the sky – What is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changin’…ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life?
I don’t know….I don’t know

Well I’ve been afraid of changin’
Because I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder, even children get older
Am I’m getting older too…

So, take my love…take it down
Climb a mountain and turn around
And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills…
Well the landslide will bring it down
The landslide will bring it down

Your guess is as good as mine.

HOT DOG!

I was able to go to the OU game Saturday with my good friend Steve. I had a good time and yes, I did root for the Sooners (my allegiance still with the Pokes).

What was it that got my attention?

Was it the exciting football game? NO
Was it the flyover during the National Anthem? NO
Was it the vendor loosing his money and it flying all over the crowd? NO
Was it the awesome Fighting Texas Aggie Band? NO

It was a sign on the JUMBOTRON. An advertisement for BAR-S FOODS bragging that they make 7 million hotdogs a day. That's 2 Billion 541 Million hotdogs a year and I gave them Thanksgiving and Christmas day off.

Now that's a lot of free radicals.

The B-I-B-L-E

I was thinking (which could be considered dangerous at times) about the comparison of the Bible and a teddy bear.

My son has a teddy bear and is very attached to it like a lot kids are attached to blankets, toys, and any stuffed type creature.

The Teddy Bear

  1. My son is very glad to see his bear whenever he has been away from it.

  2. He likes to keep it near him for comfort when he is down.

  3. If he keeps carrying it around when he gets older he might kids might make fun of him.

The Bible

  1. Are we glad to read the Bible whenever we have been away from it?

  2. Do we keep the Bible close to us for comfort when we are down?

  3. Are we afraid that if we carry around our Bible that we will be ridiculed?

Where is your Bible?

Don't be a weed!

I was fortunate to get to go to the home opener of the NOK Hornets. NOK being New Orleans and Oklahoma City combined but that's a different blog at a different blog time anyway (that was for Luke) there was a man holding up a sign wanting to legalize marijuana (weed) saying that this would stop gang activity. I guess he was thinking this worked back in the day with Capone and Prohibition. It's already scary with people drinking and driving. How about people someone wacked out on drugs driving.
Just listen to Nancy Reagan and say no to drugs.

I think the guy holding the sign was actually a rep. from the snack food industry trying to raise sales.

Ok, I'm getting to a point in all this rambling. The other day I was listening to the Bible (I did say listening to the Bible. Yes, I'm reading impaired not that I can't read, it's just doing it is the problem. I'm losing focus here must finish point.) The other day I was listening to the Bible and I came upon the 13th chapter of Matthew verses 24 thru 30 The Parable of the Weeds and verses 36 thru 43 The Parable of the Weeds Explained and I thought of the man with the sign who actually in all honesty probably wanted to smoke weed and not go to jail than actually caring about gangs and their activities.

The irony is if he doesn't change his ways that he'll probably be a smoked weed.

The Parable of the Weeds
24Jesus told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
27"The owner's servants came to him and said, 'Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?'
28" 'An enemy did this,' he replied. "The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?'
29" 'No,' he answered, 'because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. 30Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.' "

The Parable of the Weeds Explained
36Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field."
37He answered, "The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. 38The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
40"As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
